Message from the chair

Welcome to Special Delivery, the UMMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology electronic newsletter. Through this and future issues, we hope to build a sense of community among the department and those who partner with us. Sharing stories from across the campus and from our other locations is important to us and we hope you enjoy our reports.

Residency program news

Our residency program has been busy welcoming new interns and sending off our PGY4's! Our new academic year just started and we have two new chiefs: Dr. Shelby Claire Liddell and Dr. Logan Roka. We have a total of 21 residents this year with rotations happening in Tupelo and Hattiesburg.

MFM fellowship news

Our first year fellows, Dr. Miriam Hankins and Dr. Charles Brewerton attended the 1st year fellow retreat in October. Our 2nd year fellows, Dr. Danielle Frieson and Dr. Jean Vel, attended GOHO (Gottesfeld – Hohler Memorial Foundation) meeting in December. All of our fellows will be going to the SMFM- Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine in February. Oh and we got a new addition the MFM family- meet Dakota- Dr. Danielle Frieson's new puppy!

Awards and recognition

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is proud of our faculty and staff who strive to make a difference daily in the lives of their patients and our students. Several of our faculty and staff received awards over the past few months and we want to recognize them.

Alumni spotlight - Marc R. Parrish, D.O., MBsc, FACOG

Dr. Marc R. Parrish attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He then continued his residency at University of Missouri-Kansas City. After completing his OBGYN residency he joined the University of Mississippi Medical Center Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship program. He currently serves as Associated Professor, OBGYN, The University of Kansas Medical Center, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division Director; The University of Kansas Health System and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program Director; The University of Kansas Medical Center.

Research update

The research division within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is currently maintaining and developing a multitude of research projects ranging from clinical trials, educational research, retrospective chart reviews and basic science projects.
